After New York City receives a series of attacks from giant flying robots, a reporter teams up with a pilot in search of their origin, as well as the reason for the disappearances of famous scientists around the world.
In 1939, an intrepid reporter in New York City makes a connection between the story she's covering – of famous scientists suddenly disappearing around the world, and a recent attack on the city by giant robots. Determined to find the solution to these happenings, she seeks the help of her ex-boyfriend, the captain of a mercenary legion of pilots. The two are investigating the case when the robots attack the city again, though in a stroke of luck, Sky Captain's right-hand man is able to locate their source. They then set off on an adventure in search of the evil mastermind behind these schemes, who is bent on creating a utopia and destroying the current world.
I can sit through pretty much any rubbish Hollywood throws at me. However Sky Captain was one of only 2 films that I begged to be turned off before the end (the other being the 4th Batman film). I think you really have to be into this kind of thing to enjoy it. Camp 1930s adventure. No thanks.<br/><br/>I could not really get into the story line or the characters. It all felt a bit like a school play. It made sense to those involved but meant absolutely nothing to anyone else. The script was slightly below Hollywoods usual low standards however the effects were top notch. As usual with Hollywood films style overtook content.<br/><br/>Not Judes finest hour.
After seeing this film there is only one statement that I could think of that says everything one needs to say; God bless the blue screen.<br/><br/>&#39;Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow&#39; is not exactly ground breaking in the technologies that it uses, but, filming so much in front of a blue screen, thus creating a huge proportion of the film in CGI is nothing short of incredible. From the landscapes to the vehicles every element of this film is breathtaking. Although the film is a only a little over 1 1/2 hours, it it doesn&#39;t dissappoint.<br/><br/>A fantastic movie, although - will it be as breathtaking on a small screen?
As an imaginative visual experience, there's nothing like it. Today, at least.
The two vials contained the material for Totenkopf&#39;s genetically engineered humans, his Adam and Eve. &quot;Sky Captain&quot; is Joe&#39;s call-sign, or pilot nickname. The story behind it remains unknown.
